North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) joins the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, sponsored by the Provincial and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices with the support partner from BFP-Tago. The event was participated by all employees and staff of NEMSU, with the aim of preparing them for potential earthquake emergencies.
Prior to the earthquake drill, a short briefing was held at the NEMSU Conference Room for all employees, spearheaded by the University President of NEMSU, Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon, and the head of PDRRMO, Mr. Eduardo C. Milloren. During the briefing, the importance of disaster preparedness and the procedures to be followed during the drill were emphasized. Dr. Loayon and Mr. Milloren stressed the significance of being proactive in ensuring the safety of everyone in the university in the event of a real earthquake.
The drill began with a simulated earthquake scenario, where participants were instructed to drop, cover, and hold on to protect themselves from falling debris. Following the earthquake, a recommended evacuation was conducted to test the universityโs emergency response procedures.
During the simulation, there were victims who were trapped inside the office and in need of immediate assistance. Search and rescue teams were deployed to locate and extract the victims, while first aid teams provided medical assistance to those who were injured.
The drill served as a valuable opportunity for NEMSU employees and staff to practice their emergency response skills and familiarize themselves with the universityโs disaster preparedness protocols. It also highlighted the importance of being prepared for natural disasters and the crucial role that each individual plays in ensuring the safety and well-being of others.
In a statement during the assessment and evaluation, PDRRMO and CDRMMO expressed NEMSU for their active participation to disaster preparedness and emphasized the importance of conducting regular drills to ensure that everyone is well-equipped to respond to emergencies.
Overall, the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill at NEMSU was a success, with participants gaining valuable experience and knowledge that will help them effectively respond to future disasters. The university remains committed to prioritizing the safety and security of its employees and students, and will continue to conduct similar drills in the future to further enhance their emergency response capabilities and to apply valuable suggestions from the PDRRMO, CDRRMO, and BFP.
