3rd International Conference on Children’s Librarianship

SDSSU library management sent a participant to one of the awaited conference in the Philippines. Ms. Maria Lea Griettel A. España, E-Resources/ Technical librarian was able to experienced a momentous event together with her fellow librarians. The 3rd International Conference on Children’s Librarianship was different and full of excitement. The said event theme: “Fostering Inclusive Children & Young Adult Services in Libraries “ held at Almond Inland Resort,   Butuan City , Agusan del Norte last July 18-20, 2016. Spearheaded by the National Library of the Philippines in partnership with Butuan City Public Library.

We (librarians) were honored to have an international speakers, namely: Ingrid Bon (Chairperson, IFLA Library Services for Children & Young Adult) as our Keynote Speech from Netherlands, Hiroshi Kawamura (Vice President, Assistive Technology Dev’t. Organization (ATDO), Japan) with his topic “Partnerships in Nurturing Inclusive Programs for Libraries”. Another speaker from Bangladesh Ms. Razina Akhter Head of Library & Chief Librarian, Bangladesh  Shishu Academy, She talks about “Fostering Inclusive Services in Children & Young Adult Libraries in the 21st Century.” Prasong  Saihond (Storyteller, Thailand) makes a Workshop on   Acting, Reading and Telling Stories, While Ahn Chansoo, Director General, Book Culture Foundation, Seoul Korea talks about Children’s Library Services and “Bookstart” in Seoul Korea. We also have local speakers, namely: Danilo G. Liwanag (Director, Roppets Edutainment Productions, Inc.), Ma. Elsie C. Esmer, Ed.D. (Supervising Education Program Specialist, Student Inclusion Division Bureau of Learning Delivery, DepEd), Dr. Yolanda S. Quijano (Education Consultant, Early Childhood Care & Dev’t. Council, DepEd), Maricel M. Diaz (Head Librarian, Library for the Blind Section, NLP), Melanie A. Ramirez (Head Librarian, Children’s Section, NLP).
