February 21, 2025 โ The Caraga Regionโs commitment to sustainable environmental management took a significant step forward with the Ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing for the Management of San Miguel Arboretum / Reforestation Area for Dipterocarp Species, held at NEMSU San Miguel Campus.
The event gathered key stakeholders from various government agencies, the academe, and the local community. Present during the MOA signing were DENR OIC Regional Director Ms. Maritess M. Ocampo, CENR Officer Mr. Joseph E. Langanlangan, OIC PENR Officer Mr. Adelfo R. Luengas, Jr., along with LGU and BLGU Officials, Tribal Leaders, Campus Director Dr. Florife Urbiztundo, and NEMSU University President Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon. The event was also attended by faculty members, staff, and students of NEMSU San Miguel Campus, further emphasizing the university communityโs active involvement in environmental initiatives.
In his speech, Dr. Loayon expressed his gratitude and joy for the strong partnership between DENR, the National and Local Government Units, and NEMSU, particularly the San Miguel Campus, in advancing environmental conservation efforts. He emphasized that this collaboration marks a milestone in sustainable development, aligning with NEMSUโs vision of fostering ecological stewardship and research-driven initiatives.
โNEMSU is a research university, providing an avenue for both teachers and students to explore biodiversity, including various plant and animal species,โ Dr. Loayon stated. He highlighted that the San Miguel Arboretum will serve as a living laboratory for scientific exploration and conservation efforts, benefiting students, researchers, and the broader community.
Furthermore, Dr. Loayon encouraged parents to continue supporting their childrenโs education, underscoring that investing in their future will contribute to the nationโs economic growth.
The MOA signing formalizes a long-term commitment to preserving the Dipterocarp species, a vital component of the regionโs forest ecosystem. With the involvement of the DENR, local government units, and indigenous communities, this initiative is expected to create significant environmental, educational, and socio-economic impact.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge from all parties to work together in ensuring the sustainability and protection of San Miguel Arboretum, reinforcing NEMSUโs role as a key player in environmental conservation and research in the Caraga Region.
